But that's not all. There are still a few necessary formalities to take care of before you travel. To make sure you don't forget them, the Polish Motor Insurers' Bureau has prepared a special checklist for drivers preparing to travel abroad by motor vehicle. It will make your trip quick and easy. It will allow you to avoid unforeseen annoyances or even an accident.
The summer holidays have begun. After several months, the borders have been opened. Many motorists are therefore planning to travel by car not only to the Polish seaside, lakes or mountains. Some will travel to other countries.
Before they set off, however, they need to remember a number of things. If they don't sort them out, the journey can become a nightmare instead of a pleasure.
- Every day we receive calls from motorists who have missed the technical inspection deadline while on holiday on the Mediterranean, who have run out of liability insurance while visiting relatives in Western Europe or who have run out of Green Cards while on an escapade to the vineyards of Moldova. They ask us what they should do in such a situation. We are always happy to advise. But the first rule we remind everyone of is to prepare properly for a trip," says Mariusz Wichtowski, President of PBUK.
Checklist for drivers taking a trip abroad in a motor vehicle
Before leaving, the vehicle should be properly prepared from a technical point of view. It is also necessary to check that you have the correct documents. The validity of these must be confirmed not only on the day of departure, but also on the day of return home. The car must be properly equipped, as drivers have different obligations in different countries. It is also necessary to familiarise yourself with the regulations of the countries you are travelling to and through.
- Information on the regulations and obligations of drivers in a given country can be found on the websites of Polish embassies," recalls Mariusz Wichtowski.
Proper preparation for a journey will not only make it pass comfortably, but also avoid accidents. And they are a huge problem. Polish drivers cause a road accident abroad every 7 minutes!
- Lack of adequate preparation for a trip, ignorance of the rules and failure to adapt to the conditions and customs on the roads of other countries is the reason for the huge number of accidents that our motorists cause outside Poland. In 2019, they were the perpetrators of more than 73,000 traffic incidents. That is as many as 200 a day! - notes Mariusz Wichtowski.
That is why the Polish Motor Insurers' Bureau has prepared a special checklist for drivers preparing to travel abroad by motor vehicle. It will make putting the finishing touches to your trip quick and easy.
- Prepared by us "checklist" is a really big help for anyone thinking of travelling abroad in their own car. All you have to do is visit our website, download a list and deal with the issues listed step by step. Once all the items have been completed, you can set off on your journey," concludes Mariusz Wichtowski.
