Accidents in Poland

Procedure in case of accident in Poland involving a vehicle registered abroad.

Drivers of vehicles registered in countries EEA, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom are not required to carry proof of a third-party insurance contract.

In the event of a collision or accident, take down the registration number and make of the vehicle of the perpetrator of the damage and, if possible, take a photograph of the registration plates of that vehicle and a photograph of the policy (if the driver has it with him), write down its number and the name of the insurer. If the police did not intervene at the scene of the accident, make a statement with the perpetrator of the accident about the circumstances of the accident (download a copy of the joint statement of damage here).

If you know the name of the insurer

If you know with which insurance company the perpetrator's vehicle is insured, you can check on your own whether this company has a representative (the so-called correspondent) in Poland and check with the search engine for correspondentswhere to report a loss.

If you find the name of a foreign company in the search engine of correspondents, but the message "No correspondent meeting the above criteria was found" appears, you should contact PZU S.A. or TUiR Warta S.A. and report a loss in one of these insurance undertakings, asking for acceptance of a loss report as an agent of PBUK. It deals with the settlement of claims on behalf of the PBUK in a situation where the insurer of the foreign company does not have its representative (the so-called correspondent) in Poland.

If you do not know the name of the insurer

If you do not know with which insurance company the perpetrator's vehicle is insured, contact PZU S.A. or TUiR Warta S.A. and report the damage to one of these insurance companies, indicating the registration number and country of registration of the perpetrator's vehicle (important: it is the licence plate that counts, not the nationality or nationality of the driver). Under agreements concluded with PBUK, these companies will carry out an examination and valuation of the damage to your vehicle and notify us of the damage, and we will then make arrangements with the third-party insurer of the perpetrator's vehicle.

You will receive the result of the findings concerning the insurer, together with information on which company to contact regarding further handling of the claim, either directly from us or from PZU S.A. or TUiR WARTA S.A.

Drivers of vehicles registered in countries other than the countries of EEA, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom are required to carry a document proving that they have taken out insurance, known as a "certificate of insurance". Green Card.

In the event of a collision or accident (if possible), write down the registration number (box 5 on the Green Card) and make of the vehicle of the perpetrator of the damage (box 7 on the Green Card) and take a picture of the licence plate and a picture of the Green Cardand write down its number (in the top right-hand corner starting with the country code, box no. 4 on the Green Card) and the name of the insurer (box no. 10 on the Green Card).

If the police did not intervene at the scene, make a statement with the perpetrator about the circumstances of the incident (download a copy of the joint loss report form here).
